In Uganda, we hosted a kick-off of a national platform for strengthening the link between food and productive use of energy. Our India team convened a communications workshop with leading journalists in Jharkhand state, and organized the third installment of Energy Catalyst's "Lessons from the Frontline" series. Also, we will participate in Uganda Power Forum 2020 to highlight our integrated electrification initiative.

Building Partnerships for an Integrated Energy Approach: Experience from the Utilities 2.0 project, Uganda

Building a strong partnership has been one of the key strengths of the Utilities 2.0 project that has contributed significantly to its successful implementation. This was the key takeaway from a webinar titled“Building Partnerships for an Integrated Energy Approach: Experience from the Utilities 2.0 project, Uganda,'' held on May 5. Representatives of all the partner organizations shared their experiences in developing and managing partnerships that shaped the project's success, challenges faced, and lessons for scaling up or replicating the project across Africa.

In Uganda, we participated in Power Forum 2020 while in India, our team co-hosted the first meeting of the Jharkhand DRE collective. Going Beyond Access: Financing of Assets and Appliances Stimulates Energy Demand in Uganda

According to a recent household survey by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, only 57% of Ugandans have access to any form of electricity. Of these, 19% and 38% were connected to the grid and off-grid power, respectively. Most of those without access to electricity are in rural areas where over 75% of the households reside and depend on agriculture as their main source of income.

Utilities 2.0 Twaake Pilot: New integrated energy approach could deliver universal electrification in Uganda for half the cost, fraction of the time as grid-only

Today, a coalition of global energy sector leaders launched a first-of-its-kind integrated energy pilot in Uganda. Led by Uganda’s largest power utility, Umeme, coordinated by Power for All and funded by The Rockefeller Foundation, the Utilities 2.0 Twaake pilot project unites Umeme Ltd, the centralized power utility company and several leading Uganda-based distributed renewable energy companies (DREs) to provide affordable, reliable, and clean power for all in what has been described as the utilities of the future.
